Letter I Print

I for Arenaria Interpres and Quercus Ilex — Ruddy Turnstone and Evergreen Oak

Linocut — Series of 200 — A4

In this project I aimed to combine typography and illustrations, and realised that illustrated letters would have been just the perfect outcome. The Swedish botanist Carl Linneaus developed the Binomial Nomenclature ‘Systema Naturae’ in 1735, and I decided to base the illustrations on his listed species. Each letter is paired with a bird and a tree from his system, with both sharing the same initial.
